I’m thrilled to share my recent experience alongside Ameer Khan Ameer as we assisted Mafalili Molala Saidi, a Master Trainer Developer from the International Labour Organization (ILO), during the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Training of Master Trainers (TOMT) seminar held from December 18 to December 29, 2020, in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The TOMT seminar focused on several key objectives aimed at equipping potential Master Trainers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively market the SIYB program, organize training development programs, and assist partner organizations in designing their own marketing and sustainability strategies. We were fortunate to gain insights into the roles and competencies required for Master Trainers while sharing valuable field experiences and challenges related to entrepreneurship in Afghanistan.
During this seminar, Ameer and I played a crucial role in supporting Mafalili in the training process. We aimed to gain hands-on experience as aspiring Master Trainer Developers ourselves, ensuring we would be well-prepared for future responsibilities in training and monitoring. After Mafalili returned to her country post-training, Ameer and I were entrusted with the important task of monitoring the progress of the four potential Master Trainers: Sayed Mohibullah Mohib, Mohammad Najim Frogh, Mustafa Salem Ahmadzai, and Shamsuddin Mohib.
One of the highlights of our training experience was the opportunity to meet with the Deputy of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority of Afghanistan. During this meeting, we discussed the potential for merging the SIYB and ILO standards with the support of the Afghan National Association for Adult Education (ANAFAE) in TVET programs. This collaboration aims to enhance the effectiveness of vocational education and provide better training opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs in Afghanistan.
Over the course of the seminar, participants engaged in a range of activities, including:
Interviews for Selection and Training Needs Analysis: Participants were interviewed by Master Trainer Developers and Master Trainers to assess their qualifications and needs.
Field Experiences and Challenges: Group discussions highlighted various challenges faced by entrepreneurs in Afghanistan, allowing participants to learn from each other’s experiences.
SIYB Marketing and Sustainability: Participants developed marketing strategies to introduce the SIYB program to new partner organizations and ensure its sustainability.
As we move forward with our roles, Ameer and I are committed to applying the knowledge gained during this seminar. We will support the Master Trainers in implementing the SIYB program effectively, ensuring that they receive the necessary guidance and feedback to succeed. Our goal is to facilitate the training of aspiring entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic development of Afghanistan.
This experience has been an invaluable opportunity for personal and professional growth. We are excited to embrace our new responsibilities as we continue to empower others through the SIYB program and foster entrepreneurship in Afghanistan. A special thanks to Mafalili for her guidance and support throughout this journey!
