I am excited to share my enriching experience as a volunteer at Anker 36 in Kehl, where I served from January 2023 to November 2024. Initially, I volunteered on Mondays and Thursdays, but eventually transitioned to volunteering only on Mondays.
As a Wegbegleiter*in, which translates to "companion" or "guide," my primary responsibility was to work within the reception office at Anker 36. This initiative aimed to help newcomers integrate into the community and foster their participation in city life. My role involved providing essential information and guidance to residents, helping them navigate the city’s offerings and connect with various support services and activities.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role was assisting new residents in their transition to life in Kehl. I gathered and shared valuable information about the city, local clubs, and available support services. By doing so, I helped ease their arrival and enhance their sense of belonging in the community.
Overall, my time at Anker 36 has been a meaningful journey of personal growth and community service. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the city of Kehl and help newcomers find their way in this vibrant community. Volunteering has not only allowed me to give back but also to learn and grow alongside the amazing individuals I’ve met along the way.
